Why you need this information - Sample Chapter

At some point, we all will know someone that is getting near the age when they will no longer be able to fully take care of themselves. It is inevitable; the wise thing to do is plan for it.

Just as becoming independent came in phases, so does the reverse process of becoming dependent again.

With a good plan in place, a lot of the stress and worries for the family can be alleviated. Many decisions will have to be made. The best time to do it is before the changes occur. Even if they have already begun, it’s not too late to create a plan.

There are many decisions to be made by the whole family. How long can the loved one safely live in their present surroundings? Does the home have hazards to safe mobility? Can the loved one manage alone? Will the loved one move in with other family members? Will he or she have to move into an Adult Care facility? Who will be able to pay for all the costs involved? What kind of care does the loved one want? What does your loved one want done in regards to their finances? How are the assets to be managed? Who will manage the assets and day to day needs?

It is because there is so much to consider that planning today is very important. Waiting until decisions have to be made quickly is never a good choice.

Growing old will affect your entire family. You must be prepared for as much as possible. Even if the time for the changes is a long time in the future, it is wise to start planning early rather than later.
